Prof.Dr. Naratthapol Charoenpun
Director of the Institute of Molecular Biosciences Mahidol University
Educations
Bachelor: Medical Science, Hons.
Master: Hons.
Doctor: Physiology
Research Result

The scope of research of Prof.Dr. Naratthapol is in 4 main areas: Bone Biology, Biophysics (Ion Transport and Bone Substituents), Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Medicine. (mechanisms of intestinal calcium absorption and development of high calcium products) and neurobiology (mechanisms of stress-induced osteoporosis and depression). Prof. Dr. Naratthapol, M.D. is an international pioneer of research in the study of biophysics and biology of systemic intestinal calcium absorption which integrates many fields such as physics, molecular biology electrical physiology and medical science Basic science research that is a new discovery of Prof. Dr. Naratthapol, M.D. can be summarized as follows:

1. Developing a model to decompose the subcomponents of calcium transport across the intestinal epithelium led to the new theory that intestinal calcium absorption is not the only mechanism as previously reported, but can be subdivided into subcomponents. many more where each child element relies on a set of specific proteins and set of hormones These results were confirmed in both in vitro and in vivo levels. Furthermore, new functions of calcium transport proteins, Cav1.3 and claudin-15, were identified, which are important for the augmentation of calcium. Calcium absorption rate of nursing mothers In the past, there have been many studies that have created a new perspective on suction. Calcium absorption of the gastrointestinal tract, for example, the discovery of the ability of the cecum (cecum), which is the beginning of the large intestine, that it has a very high calcium absorption efficiency Mice with cecum sectioned colon have osteoporosis. This knowledge could lead to the development of prebiotics and probiotics products for enhanced absorption. Calcium in the large intestine
2. To study the effects of metabolic acidosis on intestinal calcium transport and its mechanisms at the cellular and molecular levels. Acidosis is common in patients with many diseases. especially patients with chronic kidney disease The results of this research could lead to the development of a method to alleviate acid-induced bone degeneration by administering calcium supplements in a form suitable for the body is existing calcium transport mechanism. Supplemental calcium must be broken down to a concentration in the intestinal cavity of at least 5 mmol for calcium to be absorbed significantly into the body.
3. Proving the theory of bone-lining epithelial cells, which are important for the control Calcium exchange rate between bone and plasma This exchange is a mechanism for the body to adjust. blood calcium levels that may be higher or lower than normal in a timely manner cause no life threatening Membrane Cell Theory Bone epithelium is a new knowledge that has not been systematically studied by any researcher before. This research therefore proves concretely for the first time
4. To study the role of sports and non-impact exercise such as swimming on systemic calcium metabolism. both intestinal calcium absorption rate bone calcium deposition and plasma calcium levels Research shows that low-impact exercise affects calcium and bone metabolism just as well as standard-impact exercise, such as running, which is new to refute myth. been referenced for a long time The knowledge gained can be applied Organize exercises for patients with osteoporosis. and women who enter the menopause. In addition, a form of exercise has been developed to prevent osteoporosis in anxiety disorders, stress disorder, thalassemia. and diabetes There is evidence to support it at the molecular, cellular and animal levels.
5. Co-develop the theory of artificial bone formation from hydroxyapatite nanocomposite, which contains a protein to activate the function of embedded osteoblasts. By using nanotechnology and cell biology technology to strengthen the bones. or used to speed up bone coordination after fractures Kasetsart University
